Abstract

1,089,027. Waste heat boilers. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Nov. 4, 1965 [Dec. 30, 1964], No. 46888/65. Heading F4A. A waste heat boiler 10 comprises a cylinder 12 and an integral vapour drum 14 which are closed by upper and lower heads 16, 18. Heating fluid from inlet nozzle 74 flows through U- tube banks 34 in vapour generating section 24 situated around central downcomer 28, to outlet tube 82 and the heating fluid outlet nozzle. Vaporizable liquid enters through nozzle 68 and make up tube 66 to pass through the central downcomer 28, defined by baffle plates 26, into the vapour generating section 24, the vapour-liquid mixture produced being separated by circumferentially spaced centrifugal separators 52 supported on plates 32, the vapour passing through screen dryer 62 to outlet 64 and the liquid being returned to the central downcomer 28. The U-tubes 34 (see Fig. 3, not shown) are arranged in rows in parallel planes, forming four tube bundles each occupying one quadrant of the vapour generating chamber 24, the ends of tubes in adjacent tube bundles being grouped to enable the heating fluid chamber 38 beneath tube sheet 36 to be subdivided into corresponding cold and hot outgoing and incoming heating fluid quadrants (Fig. 2, not shown). In modifications the heating fluid chamber 38 is formed with further incoming and outgoing heating fluid nozzles.
