Abstract

1,136,295. Vertical boilers. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 10 Oct., 1966 [29 Oct., 1965], No. 45253/66. Heading F4A. A vertical vapour generator 10 comprises a pressure vessel 12 divided by tube sheet 22 into heating fluid and vapour generating sections 26, 24, respectively. Parallel rows of U-shaped heating tubes 30 extend through liquid space 34 . in the vapour generating section from an inlet chamber on one side of plate 50 in heating section 26, to an outlet chamber on the other. ' Feedwater from inlet duct 35 passes down through cylindrical downcomer 62 and then rises in outer annular chamber 64 over the heating tubes 30, absorbing heat to form a watersteam mixture which passes into reversing hood vapour separator 86. Vapour from separator 86 passes to vapour space 36 and subsequently out of nozzle 38, whilst separated liquid collects in downcomer trough 68 and flows back through rectangular duct 82 to mix with the incoming feedwater in downcomer 62. The tube sheet 22 is supported by a cylindrical support member 40 having a passage 46 therethrough to provide access to the interior of the vapour generating section 24. In a modification (Fig. 4) a plurality of circumferentially spaced centrifugal separators are used in place of the reversing hood separator.
