Abstract
In a steam boiler having an upper separator drum and a lower water drum connected by rows of upright tubes and with a furnace chamber disposed at one side of the tube rows, parallel gas passes containing banks of said tubes bad gases from the furnace chamber to a common outlet passage also containing a bank of said tubes. In the form shown the boiler has drums 31, 32 connected by vertical tubes 30 and screen tubes 40 which are located to one side of a furnace 16 fired by oil burners 50. The tubes of the middle portion of the outermost tube row 20 of the tubes 30 are sealed together to form a baffle wall which constrains the furnace gases to pass through openings 21A, 22A at the ends of the tube row 20. The thus divided gas flow is conveyed as indicated by the arrows in opposite directions in passes 21, 22 between the tubes 30 therein, the two streams uniting for flow through a common outlet passage 25. The latter contains a bank 37 of vertical downcomer tubes which connect the mid-portions of the drums 31, 32. Steam from the drum 31 flows downwardly in superheater tubes 41 to an outlet main 45.
