Abstract

662,721. Water-tube steam boilers; steam superheaters. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING-SUPERHEATER, Inc. Sept. 23, 1949 [Oct. 25, 1948], No. 24475/49. Classes 123(ii) and 123(iii) In a steam boiler comprising a vertical furnace chamber B lined with steam-generating tubes 7, 16, alternate tubes 16 on the front and rear walls 14, 15 of the chamber extend at 16<SP>1</SP>, 16" inwardly and upwardly from these walls towards the middle of said chamber and then, near the location of a primary superheater 20, vertically to form two parallel rows 16c and divide an upper gas receiving chamber C into three passes, namely, outer secondary superheater and reheater passes D, E, repsectively, and an intermediate byepass F fitted with an outlet damper 26. The tube parts of the rows 16c are preferably finned, and the spaces therebetween are filled with refractory blocks. The gases from the chamber C are lead into a duct 23; locating an economizer 24 and air preheater 25, from the pass D through dampers H<SP>1</SP> and from the passes F, E through dampers H", the said dampers being independently adjustable. The steam-generating tubes discharge directly, or through headers 11 and outlet tubes 12, into a primary steam-and-water drum 13 having an associated second steam-and-water drum 13<SP>1</SP> and a lower downcomer header 37, the latter being connected to the drums 13, 13<SP>1</SP> by tubes 38 and to inlet headers 8, 17, 18 at the bottom of the chamber by downcomers 17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP>. The secondary superheater I comprises upper and lower groups of parallel return-bend tubes which are connected at their inlet ends 29, 30 to a header 28, in communication with the drum 13<SP>1</SP>, and discharge into the primary superheater 20, the several tubes being bundled together by straps 30a and the assembly being suspended from the boiler roof through hangers 31, 32 engaging the said tube ends 29, 30; similarly the reheater J is in two groups braced by straps 35a and suspended from the roof through hangers 36.
