Abstract

879,290. Forced-flow steam boilers; superheaters. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Feb. 4, 1960 [March 18, 1959], No. 3991/60. Classes 123(2) and 123(3) A high capacity steam generator comprises respectively reheat and superheat furnaces 10, 12 each having their front walls 14, 16 and the forward parts 40 of their side walls 32, 34 and 36, 38 lined with steam generating tubes and a pair of inwardly projecting water tube panels 52 which, with the wall tubes, are connected for forced circulation with a common steam and water drum 18. Each furnace, separately fired by three horizontally spaced vertical rows of burners 58 arranged between the panels and the corresponding furnace side walls, has an outlet 60 leading to horizontal and down passes 66, 68 accommodating economizers 70 and convection superheater sections 72, 80 all of the steam output from which is passed to the upper pair of inlet headers 86 for radiant superheater tubes 88 which cover the remaining width 90 of the side walls 36, 38 of the superheater furnace 12. Steam flows downward through every other tube 88 and upward through alternate tubes which have their upper ends connected to the adjacent leg of a U-shaped header 192 the centre portion of which communicates with the upper ends of radiantly heated superheater tubes 94 lining the rear wall of the furnace 12. Steam for reheating passes from inlet headers 100 and up through tubes 98 lining the side walls 32, 34 of the furnace 10 to a U-shaped header 106 connected also to radiant superheater tubes 108. Steam flows downwardly through the latter, which line the furnace wall 62, to an outlet header 110.
