Abstract

868,120. Water-tube steam boilers; superheaters. MONT INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION Ltd. Aug. 30, 1957 [Oct. 3, 1956], No. 30100/56. Classes 123(2) and 123(3) A water tube boiler has an upright furnace divided into two compartments 2, 19 by a vertical tubulous partition 26, each compartment being fired separately by burners 1 and being lined respectively with radiantly heated steam generating tubes 3 and with radiantly heated steam superheating tubes 17. Gases from the upper parts of the evaporating and superheating compartments 2, 19 flow through lateral passes locating respectively an evaporating tube bank 4 and a secondary superheater 29 into down-passes locating respectively another evaporating tube bank 5 and a reheater 31. The lateral passes and the upper parts of the downpasses are divided by a rearward extension 32 of the furnace partition wall, the two gas flows uniting beneath the downpass dividing wall 32 for flow through an economizer 6 and air heater 7. Steam generated in the banks 4, 5 and in the water tubes 3 is separated in a drum 9 and flows in succession through the radiant tubes lining the superheater furnace section 19 and the convection superheater bank 29. During starting- up, only the evaporating section is fired, steam being led to the superheaters when the working pressure has been attained. Firing of the superheater furnace section 19 is commenced when its lining tubes have been warmed up by the steam now and is increased slowly until the desired steam temperature is attained. During normal operation, steam temperature is controlled by adjustment of the firing rate of the superheater section. The invention is of application to forced recirculation boilers as shown in the Figure or to natural circulation boilers.
