Abstract
693,532. Water-tube steam boilers; superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. May 18, 1951 [May 19, 1950], No. 11692/51. Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii) The generation of steam in a boiler is expedited, and the superheater 11, 13 thereof protected against overheating during starting up, by steam from a separate source which is introduced into the water distributing headers 3, 14 from which extend steam-generating tubes 4, 15 lining the walls of the boiler furnace. The steam flows, together with any steam generated in the boiler as result of desuperheating action or the firing of the furnace, to the boiler drum 1 and from thence successively through tubes 10, the superheater 11, an attemperator 12, the superheater 13, and a branch pipe 36 leading from the normal super, heater outlet pipe 18 to atmosphere or a condenser- Feed water may be sprayed into the attemperator 12. in which case the supply of steam to the headers 3, 14 may be reduced.
