Abstract
725,709. Water-tube steam boilers; superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. March 13, 1953 [March 14, 1952], No. 7023/53. Classes 123 (2) and 123 (3). In a steam boiler having a radiation chamber 4 extending upwardly from, say, a corner-fired furnace 1, the chamber 4 locates inwardly-extending spaced superheating-tube panels 6 preferably in recesses 8 formed in the walls thereof. The walls of the furnace and radiation chamber are lined with steam-generating tubes 9, some 9<SP>1</SP> of which, instead of following the walls of the radiation chamber, extend straight up in front of respective innermost tubes of the panels 6 to protect the latter. A second superheater, in the form of parallel panels 12, may be disposed in the upper part of chamber 4, and in an upwardly-extending convection pass 13 above said chamber are fitted a further superheater 14, an economiser 15 and an air heater 16. The absorption of heat by the tube panels 6 may be controlled by introducing relatively cool flue gases or air into the chamber 4 through nozzles; not shown, provided at the lower ends of the recesses 8.
