Abstract

703,899. Water-tube steam boilers; superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. July 11, 1952 [July 12, 1951], No. 17577/52. Addition to 693,803. Class 123(2) In the steam boiler described in the parent Specification, that is with a radiant superheater 3 comprising hair-pin tubes which are disposed in spaced panels and are connected to headers 5, 6 external of the furnace chamber 1, 2 on the side of the latter remote from its outlet to a convection gas pass 11, there is provided a second radiant superheater 4 which is also in the form of spaced panels of hairpin tubes extending between headers 7, 8 located within a hollow arch 24 defining, in part, the chamber 2 and the bottom of the opening of the pass 11. The panels of the two superheaters may be coplanar, or they may alternate in a common row as shown. In the latter construction the headers 5, 6 of the superheater 3 may be disposed below the arch 24 on the same side of the combustion chamber as the headers 7, 8. One of the two superheaters may be used as a reheater.
