Abstract

675,410. Steam &c. superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. April 14, 1950 [April 16, 1949], No. 9194/50. Class 123(iii) In a steam &c. boiler comprising for example, a plurality of cyclone furnaces or burners 10 discharging through a secondary combustion chamber 22 into the lower end 27 of a radiant-heat chamber 28 which is lined with steamgenerating tubes 104...109 and, at its upper end, terminates in a horizontal convection gas pass which locates a secondary superheater 29 and reheater 30 and leads to a gas pass 32 locating a primary superheater 38 and economizer 40, the degree of superheat is regulated by withdrawing gases from the bottom 50 of the pass 32 by a fan 200 and directing them through a duct 63 to ports 66 in the said zone 27 of the chamber 28. The motor of the fan 200 may be controlled by a thermostat 212 in the superheater outlet pipe 171, and the ports 66 are preferably arranged to discharge the recirculated gases downwardly against the high temperature combustion gases flowing from the chamber 22 through an angularlydisposed tube screen 26. The chamber 22 is provided with a slag pool 21 having an opening 23 leading to a slag tank 24. Air for combustion is supplied to the cyclone furnaces &c. through ductwork 16 from air heaters 74, 73, 44 disposed in a continuation of the gas pass 32.
