Abstract
735,034. Controlling superheat in water-tube steam boilers. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., and SOUTHCOTT, L. C. Sept. 22, 1952 [Aug. 31, 1951], No. 20590/51. Class 123 (3). In a steam boiler comprising a furnace F which is lined with steam-generating tubes and is fired by burners T, the combustion gases therefrom flowing, in succession, over a superheater S and economizer E and through an air preheater H and induced draught fan F1 to a chimney or stack C, the temperature of the superheated. steam is controlled by recirculating through the furnace a regulated quantity of exhaust gases. The latter are withdrawn from the stack C through ducts P1, P2 and an intermediate heat exchanger X located in the gas flow path between the economizer E and air preheater H, the duct P2 terminating in tiltable discharge nozzles G and the duct P1 and stack C being fitted with adjustable dampers D1, D2 respectively. The exchanger X for heating the recirculated gases may be provided with a damper-controlled by-pass B. Preferably the burners T are disposed at the corners of the furnace and are tiltable vertically, in which case the nozzles G may be linked thereto. Specification 735,060 is referred to.
