Abstract
721,373. Water-tube steam boilers. HINGST, R. March 21, 1952, No. 7388/52. Class 123 (2). A steam boiler comprises a casing 5, Fig. 6, housing water tubes 1 disposed in parallel rows, each row extending betweeen upper and lower headers 3, 4 which are connected through a collector 6 and distributer 7, common to all the headers 3, 4 respectively, and associated riser pipes 9 and downcomers 11 to a steam-andwater drum 10. Gas tubes 2 extend wholly through the tubes 1 and their headers 3, 4, and the spaces between adjacent headers 3 are closed by refractory blocks 13 so that waste or other heating gas from an inlet 14 at the upper end of the casing 5 is constrained to flow, in the direction of the arrows, around the tubes 1 to the bottom of the boiler and thence through the tubes 2 to an outlet 15. A superheater comprising inlet and outlet headers 62 connected by zig-zag tubes 61 which extend into the gaps between the tube rows and into the spaces between the tubes of each row is preferably fitted near the gas inlet 14. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tubes 1, 2 are inclined and disposed above a combustion chamber 25 which is lined with steam-generating tubes 27, and the flow of gas around the tubes 1 is directed by a baffle 38, 39 ; a superheater 29 is fitted as shown. Further modifications are described.
