Abstract
640,078. Forced-flow steam boilers. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING SUPERHEATER, Inc. June 7, 1948, No. 15341. Convention date, Jan. 27. [Class 123(ii)] A vertical boiler has a furnace chamber 10, Figs. 1 and 3, downwardly fired by a burner 11, and an adjacent convection pass 12 which are separated by a wall 16, 17 of grid-like steam-generating tube coils, the ends 20, 23 respectively of the latter being connected to a water supply header 22, 25 disposed within the area of the header 22, and alternate tubes thereof being stopped short of the bottom of the chamber 10 so as to provide openings 18 for the passage of combustion gases from said chamber to the pass 12. The collecting header 25 discharges into a separator drum 40 from which water flows through a downcomer 41 to the intake of a circulating pump 42, the latter feeding the supply header 22 through a pipe 43. The furnace wall is lined with tube coils 14, 15, similar to the coils 16, 17, and steam-generating coils 30... 33, each comprising a number of tubes which are disposed in spaced relation in three parallel rows and are connected for series flow of water therethrough from the header 22 to the header 25, are located within the convection pass 12, which is preferably fitted with baffles 38 extending horizontally from opposite walls thereof. In a modification, Fig. 4, the collecting header 68 is concentrically arranged inwardly of a circular supply header 67, and the wall between the furnace chamber 60 and convection pass 62 is defined by steamgenerating tube coils such as 63, 66 each bent to arcuate shape and comprising a plurality of contacting tubes, of a length dependent upon the width of the opening 61 between said chamber and pass, the end tubes 76, 77 respectively being connected to the two headers. Steam-generating coils are also located in the pass 62, some of the individual tubes of the coils being disposed in contacting relation on the outer wall 85 of the boiler and the rest being arranged in spaced relation in a row abutting the coils 63, 66.
