Abstract

1354388 Shell and tube vapour generators COMBUSTION ENG Inc 19 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 53912/71 Heading F4A Vapour generating apparatus includes an elongated shell defining a substantially closed pressure vessel 12 containing a vapour generating chamber 26, a bundle of heat exchange tubes 28 disposed in the vapour generating chamber, means for circulating heating fluid through the tubes 28, and means for circulating vaporizable liquid through the vapour generating chamber 26 in heat exchange relationship with said tubes comprising: a vapourizableliquid inlet nozzle 34; conduit means defining a downflow passage in the space 56 between the tube bundle and the shell wall, the outermost surface of the conduit means being spaced from the wall of the shell to place the wall in open fluid communication with the vapour generation chamber; and means for passing vapourizable liquid from the inlet nozzle 34 to the conduit means. The heat exchange tubes 28 are held in position by lattice-type supports 25 and are in fluid communication with the heating fluid inlet and outlet chambers 22 and 24. The inlet nozzle 34 connects with an annular manifold 36 which is provided with a plurality of circumferentially-spaced depending injector nozzles 38 that discharge the vapourizable liquid into a plurality of circumferentially-spaced, open-ended cylindrical conduits (54), Fig. 2 (not shown), and entrain vapour from the chamber 26 for heating the vapourizable liquid. A baffle structure comprising transverse plates 46 and an annular baffle 48 is provided in a superheating portion 44 of the apparatus to conduct the evaporated fluid across the tubes 28 and through a concentric passage 52, formed by the baffle 48 and in communication with the discharge nozzle 50.
