Abstract
1475399 Boilers GCOE CORP 3 June 1974 [4 June 1973] 24440/74 Heading F4A [Also in Division F1] A vapour or steam generator 1 comprises a combustion chamber 73, a burner 65 in the combustion chamber adjacent a first end of the combustion chamber, a vapour outlet 71 adjacent a second end of the combustion chamber, the burner having a supply of fuel and oxygen to generate a flame along the axis of the combustion chamber and spaced from the inner walls of the combustion chamber, a fluid jacket about the combustion chamber forming an annular flow passage 80 between 9 jacket 74, 76 and the combustion chamber for receiving a vaporizable fluid such that the fluid is in heat exchange relationship with the combustion chamber and outputs 92 adjacent the burner and communicating with the annular flow passage 80 to disperse jets of the fluid into the combustion chamber along the inner walls of the combustion chamber such that fluid is injected between the flame issuing from the burner and the inner walls of the combustion chamber to form a vapour barrier between the flame and the inner walls of the combustion chamber. The vaporizable fluid supplied to the outputs 92 through the annular flow passage 80 may be water. As shown the vessel 50 contains liquid hydrogen or other suitable fuel which is delivered through a line 54 to a heat exchanger 56 associated with an electrical generator 26. Line 58 leads to an evaporator 60 disposed inside the jacket 41 of a condenser 40 and the line 62 supplies the fuel to the burner 65. The vessel 52 contains liquid oxygen which is delivered through a line 64, evaporator 66 and line 68 to the burner. Vapour is directed out through the outlet 71 to a supply line 2 which leads to a rotary expander 18.
