Abstract

476,195. Gas turbines. GOMORY, A. B. Aug. 13, 1936, No. 22307. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1935. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XII] Fuel and air delivered by pumps 12, 14, Fig. 1, pass through throttle valves 22, 23, controlled from pressure responsive devices in the combustion chambers 1, 2, 3. The fuel is pre-heated by being passed through a jacket 4 around the combustion chambers. In a modification shown in Fig. 2, a single combustion chamber delivers products of combustion to a chamber 29 through coiled pipes 32 immersed in the liquid fuel contained in the jacket 23. Air from the pump 25 passes to the burner nozzle 191 through an outer jacket 27. A constant ignition arc is maintained between electrodes 35, 36. Water may be injected from a pump 49 by pipes 50, 51, 52 and 53 into the combustion chamber, the fuel supply or the air supply and its quantity may be controlled with the fuel and air supplies. An air reservoir 41 is associated with the air supply and may be used for supplying air at starting.
