Abstract

399,687. Gas burners. HARRISON, A. D., 195, Woodhull Avenue, Hollis, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 12, 1933, No. 1090. [Class 75 (i).] In a portable plant for the production of inert gas a horizontal waterjacketed combustion chamber 12 is fired by an end burner 11, which is supplied with fuel and air by blowers 54, 55 of the positive displacement type. The motor 58 for driving the blowers preferably operates on the same fuel as the burner. A bleeder pipe 62, and a relief valve 64 for use in starting up are provided in connection with the air compressor, and on the inlet side of the gas compressor are a pressure governor 67, and an air injector by which a portion of the air for combustion is mixed with the gas before it passes to the compressor. The burner 11 comprises a gas manifold 43, Fig. 5, from which pipes 42 extend through an air manifold 45 into nozzles 44 formed in a water box 15 connected in series with the jacket of the combustion chamber. A pilot light separately supplied with fuel and air, and having sparking-plugs for igniting it, is provided in connection with the burner.
