Abstract
460,794. Gas turbines. HONERT, A. VAN DEN. Oct. 8, 1935, No. 27769. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1934. [Class 110 (iii)] In an internal-combustion turbine, the relative positions of the nozzle and fuel jets are such that the amount of fuel burnt when the mixture reaches the nozzle throat is enough to raise the temperature of the mixture well above ignition temperature. In the divergent portion of the nozzle combustion continues, but any further increase in temperature is counteracted by a decrease due to the expansion of the gases. The jet from this nozzle can be used either alone to drive a gas turbine or it may be led to an injector where it induces a large mass of gas which passes with it through the.turbine. The inlet end of the jet apparatus g connects with the outlet end of the turbine t through a cooler k whilst the outlet end is connected to the turbine inlet. As combustion gases are continuously being added to the circuit an outlet for exhaust gas is provided where the pressure is atmospheric or above. In a modification, the jet apparatus can be used to create a flow of gas at atmospheric pressure or as a compresser of the gas which expands in the turbine blades.
