Abstract
279,770. Kohler, C. Nov. 10, 1926, [Convention date]. Working-fluid supply.-In a multistage turbine in which the driving medium contains excess of air and is re-heated between the successive units by internal combustion of coal gas and liquid fuel, the combustion chambers preceding the earlier turbine units are provided not only with devices for the combustion of coal dust, but also with devices for burning liquid fuel more readily combustible than coal dust. The chambers preceding the last turbine unit may be furnished only with devices for burning liquid fuel. In the form shown, three turbine units A, B, C are preceded by combustion chambers 3 into which open coal-dust feed pipes 6 and liquid-fuel feed pipes 5. An excess of air is admitted through the pipes 4 into the chambers 3 preceding the first unit A. Air inlet pipes may be provided in the other chambers 3. The supply of fuel to the chambers 3 can be controlled by common valves 7, 8, or by valves peculiar to each chamber.
