[Class_7 (iii).] A pump which delivers heavy oil or a liquid of low viscosity, such as a light oil, has a column of heavy oil always interposed between the low viscosity liquid and the pump plunger. Fuel is supplied to a nozzle f by pipes g, g<1> between which is a casing i containing an outlet valve l, and an inlet valve k for light fuel which is supplied through a pipe m past a cock n. An inlet valve h for heavy fuel is located at the end of the pump barrel a. When the engine stops, the pipes g, g<1> and the casing i contain heavy oil. To start the engine, the cock n is opened and the pump plunger b is operated by a hand-lever d to induce light fuel past the valve k, which opens more easily than the valve h. During the forcing stroke of the pump heavy oil remains interposed between the pump plunger and the light oil in the casing. When the cock n is closed, the engine works on heavy oil. The heavy oil supply pipe to the pump may be provided with a stop valve. The casing i may be formed integral with the nozzle body or with the body of the pump.
