Abstract

396,833. Fuel pumps ; priming. A. C. SPHINX SPARKING PLUG CO., Ltd., STOCKBRIDGE, N. F., and CORBIN, D. H., 242, Bradford Street, Birmingham. Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5349. [Class 102 (i).] A diaphragm or other fuel pump for an internal-combustion engine is primed by means of a hand-operated auxiliary pump, the barrel m of which may be formed in the pump cover. The rod p of the piston o carries a cap r by means of which the piston o can be operated against the action of a spring s. The barrel m communicates with the main pump chamber a by means of a passage n, which is closed when the primary pump is not in use by means of a ball t carried by the rod p. The piston o may be operated from a distance by a Bowden wire, or the priming pump may be situated at a distance and be connected with the main pump by a pipe controlled by a cock.
