Abstract

397,921. Spray carburetters. ROWLEDGE, A. J., Ellerslie, Trowels Lane, Derby. March 3, 1932, No. 6484. [Class 7 (iii). An accelerator pump actuated from the throttle valve comprises a plunger c freely mounted on the pump rod d which is connected to the throttle valve through linkage d<1>, d3. The pump delivers through a conduit h<5> to a separate nozzle h normally closed by a spring- loaded valve h<1> mounted on a small piston h<2>, a port h4 being provided to return leakage. The pump cylinder communicates, through holes b<1>, with the float chamber and is of two diameters the part of larger diameter receiving the plunger c. Between the plunger and the pump rod is a sleeve e<1> with a flanged portion e against which bears a spring g the upper end bearing against a flange f of a sleeve f<1> which is adapted to be forced down by a shoulder on the pump rod. Holes c<2> are formed in the plunger. Upon quick movement of the rod d the passage through holes c<2> is blocked and fuel is forced past valve h<1> and through nozzle h. The injection period is prolonged after throttle movement has ceased by the spring g. For slow throttle movement fuel merely passes from bottom to top of plunger through the holes c<2>. The fuel, instead of being delivered through the nozzle h, may be discharged at any suitable point in the induction passage and might be employed to form a primary charge for starting purposes.
