Abstract

Liquid fuel enters the burner through a restriction (15c) and vaporises due to the pressure reduction. This gas travels up the centre of the burner and to the nozzles (4) where it may be ignited to form a pilot flame which heats the upper heat exchanger (9). The temperature rise causes an expansion which raises the end (16a) of a shaft (16) from the main fuel inlet (15b) so that liquid fuel can travel through the heat exchanger where it is vaporised before flowing to the nozzles. The labyrinthine heat exchanger has annular ribs (10d, 12d) to improved heat exchange and the resulting flame encloses the heat exchanger completely.
