Abstract

1330659 Liquid heater; submerged combustion burner GAZ DE FRANCE 26 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 56294/70 Headings F4A and F4K In a liquid heater a combustible mixture is carried via ducts 10, 11 to burn in a combustion chamber 12 immersed in a bath of liquid e.g. water, 13 maintained at a temperature below the dew point temperature of the products of combustion. The chamber has the form of a vertical cylindrical boiler casing and is partially insulated from the surrounding liquid by walls 15, 17. Liquid to be heated enters at 18, passes through heat exchanger 19 immersed in the bath and then feeds a further heat exchanger 16 contained in chamber 12 before emerging heated at 20. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown) the enclosure 14 is maintained under pressure so that the bath can be held at a higher tempera - ture. In this arrangement the combustion products emerging at 21 from the bath is passed into a condenser/heat recuperator, the heat it gives off being used to heat the incoming liquid for the bath.
