Abstract
693,006. Water-tube steam boilers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. April 28, 1950 [April 29, 1949], No. 10503/50. Class 123 (ii) A steam boiler comprises a main section, which includes steam generating tubes 16, 17, 19 lining the walls of a combustion chamber 11 and extending to an upper steam-and-water drum 15 from which depend downcomers 23, 21a, and an auxiliary section 36 having a circulation system independent of that of the main section. The section 36 preferably comprises two parallel groups 40, 41 of finned tubes which are located in a gas pass 26 leading to the boiler flue 27 between an inlet header 38 and outlet headers 39, the latter headers being connected by risers 45 to vertical cylindrical headers 44 which are positioned at the same level as the drum 15 and constitute a steam-and-water separator 43. From the separator 43 steam is directed through pipes 47 to chambers 60, 61 in the drum 15 where it is condensed by contact with feedwater from branches of a supply main 77, the resulting condensate being fed to the main boiler section, and water is returned to the inlet header 38 through downcomers 46. Make-up water for the auxiliary boiler section is supplied to the header 38 from the downcomer 21a through a conduit 42. The separator is fitted with a valve-controlled blow-down 48.
