Abstract

268,591. Crinks, P. F., and Vickers Boiler Co., Ltd. June 9, 1926. Water-tube boilers.-The lower headers 5 of the generating tubes 6 of a water-tube boiler are connected directly to the steam drum by tubes 3 and indirectly through a distribution box 12, a mud-trap 11 and a downcomer 10, the downcomer communicating through a pipe 9 with a trough 7 into which the feed-water is admitted through an inlet 8 in the end of the drum. By this arrangement, the feedwater passes through the downcomer to the distribution box before admission to the headers and generating tubes. Fig. 4 shows a boiler having a transeversely arranged steam drum and in which the feed-water is supplied to a trough 27 which communicates with a mixing chamber 29 formed by longitudinal partitions and communicating through a central aperture in one of the partitions with the water space of the steam drum. In this case, the water from the mixing chamber flows through downcomers 30 disposed at each end of the steam drum to the mud-traps 32 and thence through the distribution box 33 to the lower headers 25 of the generating tube
