Abstract
227,688. Tresilian, A. S., and Vickers- Spearing Boiler Co., Ltd. April 17, 1924. Water-tube boilers.-In a boiler comprising groups of tubes 12, 13 connected to end headers and having a water circulation through the lower tubes separate from that through the upper tubes, the headers 3 at one end are divided, the upper parts being connected to the steam drum 1 and the lower parts to a mud drum 2, and means are provided for causing the water to circulate through the upper tubes and headers before it circulates through the lower tubes and headers. The headers 3 may be divided by perforated partitions 14, or they may each consist of separate upper and lower parts. The mud drum is connected to the steam drum by one or more downcomers 7. The part of a header 4 connected to the upper tubes has a cross-sectional area twice that of a header 3, and the part connected to the lower tubes has the same cross-sectional area as a header 3. Perforated partitions 18 in the steam drum separate the circulations through the upper and lower tubes. Feed is supplied to a trough 19 in the steam drum. A drum 16 may be placed between the headers 4 and the return tubes 9 opening into the main steam drum.
