Abstract

501,275. Forced-flow steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Aug. 19, 1937, No. 22740. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1936. [Class 123 (ii)] Forced-flow steam boilers comprise a number of tubes supplied with feed-water sufficient to fill at least their inlet ends and greater than their evaporative capacity, a number of centrifugal separators in which a rotating water column with a paraboloidal inner surface is formed and all the fluid from the tubes is received, the separators being connected on both the steam and water side and excess water being returned to the inlet of the supply means. A pump a supplies four sets of tubes each including combustion chamber cooling tubes c<1> ... c<4> and connection tube banks d<1> ... d<4>, e<1> . . . e<4>, and discharging into separators f<1> ... f<4>. Steam therefrom passes through superheaters h<1>. . . h<4> or through a single superheater and separated water through pipes g<1> . . . g<4> to the suction side of the pump. A separate pump may be provided, for each generating tube. A feed-water regulator is controlled by a float n in a vessel f<5> connected on the steam side with the separators and on the water side with the pump suction line, the vessel f<5> in marine boilers being centrally arranged to minimize fluctuations of level.
