Abstract
349,826. Water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Babcock & Wilcox Co. ; 85, Liberty Street, New York, U.S.A.) July 12, 1930, No. 21197. [Class 123 (ii).] Water forced into a heated continuous tube 5 by a pump 7 is partly evaporated, and the mixture of steam and water is discharged into a separator 11, in which steam is generated by heating the separated water by superheated or higher pressure steam. Steam is drawn from the separator through a pipe 17 and forced by a pump 18 through a superheater 19 leading to the steam supply main 21, from which part of the steam is conducted through a pipe 27 into the water in the separator. The water level in the separator may be maintained constant by a float 15 operating a valve 14 in a branch line 13 connecting the feed pipe 8 to the separator. In a modification, the whole of the superheated steam is led through a coiled pipe in the water space of the separator. In a further modification, the water in the separator is heated by the direct contact of the steam from a separate high-pressure boiler supplied with water from the main feed pump.
