Abstract

534,604. Water-tube steam boilers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. March 29, 1940, No. 5694. Convention date, May 2, 1939. [Class 123 (ii)] In a boiler having a water-tube lined furnace. downcomer tubes 22 connecting the steam and water drum 15 with external vertical manifolds 23, 24 are arranged between baffles 20, 21 enclosing a space out of the path of the furnace gases. The water flows through the manifolds to external distributing headers 25, 26 and then through pipes 27, 28 connected to the headers 29, 30 of the tubes lining the furnace walls 14, 13, and through pipes 37, 39 to the headers 35, 36 of the tubes 43, 44 lining the walls 11, 12. Steam and water is delivered from the upper ends of the tubes 44 to the drum 15 through headers 49, 50, tubes 53, headers 54, 55 and tubes 56. Steam and water is delivered from the upper ends of tubes 43 to a lower drum 16 through headers 47, 48 and from the lower drum through tube banks 17, 18, 19 to the drum 15.
