Abstract

560,385. Water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Sept. 30, 1942, No. 13724. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1941. [Class 123 (ii)] A main furnace 20 heating a bank of water tubes 11 and a furnace 21 heating a superheater 15 between the tubes are arranged on one side and at different portions along the length of the bank, the superheater being screened from the main furnace by a watertube wall 22 which is curved at its upper part to deflect the gases from the main furnace away from the superheater. The gases from the two furnaces pass to a common outlet containing an economizer or air heater 33. The horizontal U-shape superheating tubes are supported by large diameter water-tubes 11b. The tube bank may be connected to vertically inclined side headers instead of to drums as shown, and the superheater may be shielded from the gases of the main furnace by a transverse metallic baffle.
