Abstract

545,127. Water-tube steam boilers ; steam superheaters. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., and SOUTHCOTT, L. C. Oct. 8, 1940, No. 15010. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] A boiler has upper and lower drums 2, 1 connected by tube banks 3, 4 enclosing main and auxiliary water-cooled furnaces 7, 8, which are separated by a baffle 11 supported on vertical water tubes 12 and extending partly across the boiler. A superheater 5 on the main furnace side of the baffle is protected by spaced water tubes 13. A superheater or reheater 6 is disposed in the main tube bank 3. The gases from the furnaces 7, 8 may flow directly to their respective uptake 14, 15, but when the boiler is under load, a damper 16 in the uptake 14. is closed to allow the whole or part of the gases from the main furnace to now over the superheater 5 into the auxiliary furnace and thence over the tube bank 3 to the uptake 15. The firing of the auxiliary furnace is regulated to control the temperature of the steam delivered by the heater 6,which may be used as a superheater operating in series or parallel with the superheater 5.
