Abstract
371,948. Water-tube steam boilers. MACLEOD, J., 9, Mulberry Road, Newlands, Glasgow. Feb. 2, 1931, No. 3199. [Class 123 (ii).] A water-tube locomotive boiler comprises a single upper longitudinal drum 1, two rear lower drums 2, 3 arranged at the sides of the firebox and connected to the upper drum by curved tubes 4 bounding the firebox, and a lower water drum 6 disposed directly below the upper drum forwardly of the rear lower drums and connected to the upper drum by tubes 7. A superheater 9 extends horizontally into the central flue space between the tubes 7. The rear tubes 7<1> connecting the drums 1, 6 are of greater diameter than the rest of the tubes and extend entirely across the front of the flue outlet from the firebox. The outer casing 18<1> is spaced from the walls 161 enclosing the tubes. Feedwater is fed into the front of the upper drum over supply troughs 19. A transverse partition 22<1> in the upper drum prevents deposits from passing along the drum with the feedwater.
