Abstract

[Class 123 (iii)] A superheater 3 is located in the first gas pass of a boiler and so disposed as to be always traversed by the main gas stream, the steam temperature beng controlled by means of a regulatable gas passage 8 defined by water circulating tubes 4, and tiles or baffles supported thereon extending from a region in the first pass in front of the superheater to a point beyond it where the gas streams are re-united so that none of the steam generating, feed water heating. or air heating surfaces are short circuited, The inlet 9 to the gas passage may be controlled by a number of dampers or valves 10 extending across the boiler. In another arrangement in a boiler having a single tube bank the passage-defining tubes extend vertically to a header stub header, or drum above the superheater and either the inlet or outlet of the gas passage is controlled by dampers or valves.
