Abstract
371,244. Water-tube steam boilers. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Armacost, W. H. ; 153, West 188th Street, New York, U.S.A.) July 23, 1931, No. 21106. Convention date, July 23, 1930. [Class 123 (ii).] In a steam boiler plant a reheater and a portion of the steam-generating surface are so heated by arranging the furnaces as to maintain a uniform steam temperature at the outlet of the reheater, and a superheater and another portion of the steam-generating surface are independently heated to provide steam in such quantities as to carry the load on the prime mover. The boiler 10 has water-cooled furnace chambers 12, 14, the gases from which, after flowing through the tube bank 16 pass over the primary superheater 18 and the reheater 20 respectively and pass off to the chimney through a flue 22, an economizer 24, and an air-heater 26. The gases from the furnace 12 pass over a wall 42 between the furnaces to a flue 22. The fuel in furnace 14 is burned at such a rate as to ensure constant temperature at the reheater outlet 48. Additional tubes 54 are provided beneath the superheater 18 to protect it from excessive heat. These are connected with the uptake header 56 and with water headers 57 in the masonry 58 by water, wall tubes 60. The chambers 12, 14 have additional water wall tubes 64, 66. The upper portion of the central wall is supported by generator tubes 68 which pass from the header 70 and are secured to a beam 74 prior to passing to the drum 28. The reheater may be operated without water-tubes between the reheater and the combustion chamber. The rate of fuel consumption in chambers 12, 14 may be automatically controlled.
