Abstract

139,738. Yarrow, H. E. Oct. 31, 1919. Dampers for controlling superheaters.-A watertube boiler is provided with a superheater having an auxiliary heating device and controlled by a damper which varies the amount of superheat without varying the fuel consumed. A boiler of the Yarrow type having a steam drum A, water drums B, B<1>, and generating tubes C, C<1> is provided with a tubular superheater F connected to a header E. An auxiliary oil burner H is provided. The uptake I contains an air-cooled damper K so that the draft may be varied and consequently the amount of superheat. Part of the hot gas from the burner H is then diverted across the tubes C, C<1> to the uptake I<1>. Alternatively, the superheating may be controlled by the damper and auxiliary burner jointly, the two being connected by mechanical means.
