Abstract

619,716. Water-tube steam boilers; superheaters. FAIRFIELD SHIPBUILDING & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and STRACHAN, G. Dec. 20, 1946, No. 37473. [Class 123(ii) and 123(iii)] In a steam boiler comprising an upper steam drum A, and a lower water drum B connected by two spaced banks C, D of steam-generating tubes which define a combustion chamber fired by oil burners E1-E4, the combustion gases from the two banks C, D flowing through separate passes to a common uptake M, the said passes respectively locate series-connected primary and secondary super-heaters G, K and that of the secondary super-heater is preferably fitted with an adjustable closing damper N for controlling the degree of superheat. Alternatively the superheaters are nested within their associated tube banks. As shown the secondary superheater has a larger number of tubes than the primary one G and the bank C a correspondingly larger number than the bank D.
