Abstract

568,924. Steam generators, BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., June 16, 1943, No. 9656. Convention date, July 4, 1942. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] A steam generator comprises an upper steam and water drum 26 and a lower water drum 40 in communication with each other through external downcomers 150, a pair of furnace chambers 10, 14 which are provided respectively with steam generating wall tubes 94, 98, 100 and 66 and are separated by a partition in the form of tubes 32, the tubes 94, 66 and 32 being connected at their lower ends to the drum 40, and a steeply inclined bank 16 of convection tubes disposed across the top of the furnace chamber 14. In the arrangement shown, the tubes 32. are in. direct. connection with the steam drum 26, and the tubes of the bank 16 nearest the furnace chamber 14 are connected to end headers 80, 42, the upper ends of the tubes 100. 66 respectively also , being connected to those headers and the header 42 being connected to the steam drum 26 by circulators 44, 46. The upper tubes 88, 90 of the bank 16 are connected at their lower ends to a header 82, in communication with the downcomers 150 by connections 102, and have vertical extensions 92 at their upper ends leading to the steam drum 26. In a modification some of the tubes 32 are connected at their upper ends to the header 80 and the upper ends of the tubes 100, 66, instead of being connected to the headers 80, 42, are connected to additional headers in direct communication with the steam drum 26. A superheater in two sections 18, 20 is disposed above the convection tubes 16, and an economizer (not shown) may be located in a downward extension of the flue 1. If desired the superheater may be disposed in one of two parallel gas passes, so that the control of superheat may be effected by suitably proportioning the total flow of combustion gases between the two passes, with a part of the economizer located in the free bypass. Specification 549,151 is referred to.
