Steam - generator furnaces; l i q u i d , gaseous, and pulverulent fuel furnaces.-Water heating or steam-generating tubes 2 are subject to the direct heat on one side solely from a grate 1 and on the other side from one or more j jets 4 of liquid, gaseous or pulverized fuel arranged in the roof of the furnace, while the remaining tubes 16, 14, 11 of the boiler are located above in the combined path of the gases of combustion of both heating systems. The grate 1 is thus partly protected by the tubes 2 from the intense heat in the combustion chamber 5 above the tubes. One or more pipes 18 of the heating system may be situated at the sides of the grate 1; these, together with the pipes 2 are connected between headers 8 through which the heated water or steam circulates from drums 9, 10 and headers 13, 15. The gases of combustion pass by a flue 19 to an economizer 17. A double or multiple pass may be provided for the gases.
