Abstract
264,612. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Polley, J. H. Nov. 5, 1925. Pulverulent and liquid fuel furnaces; ashes, collecting and removing.-In a water-tube boiler for pulverulent fuel firing of the type provided with alternative fuel firing systems, the main combustion space within which the pulverulent fuel is ignited comprises two side walls, upper drums 10, 13, 15 connected to two lower drums 16, 19, steam and water tubes 11, 12, 14 connecting the upper drums, inclined rows of tubes 20 connecting the lower drums and rows of tubes 21, 22, 18 connecting the upper and lower drums and forming up-comers and down. comers, each of the rows of tubes lying in a plane perpendicular to the side walls. Steam from the drum 13 passes through superheating tubes 25 to the main boiler stop-valve 27. The mud drum 16 is provided with a blow-off cock and drain pipe 17. Burners 28 for the pulverulent fuel are arranged behind the drum 10 and carried by joists 29, the tubes 11 and 12 being spaced to clear the burners. A chain grate 31 supplies solid fuel, the ashes being removed by a conveyer 32. As an alternative to or in addition to solid fuel, oil fuel may be supplied through burners in the roof or side walls, the grate 31 being then replaced by a conveyer for carrying the ashes from the pulverulent fuel to the conveyer 32. Baffles 33, 34 deflect the gases, which pass as shown by the arrows to an economiser 35 or an air regenerator. The joists 29 are protected by a refractory shield 36 from the full heat of the combustion chamber. Specification 19335/11, [Class 123 (ii), Steam generators], is referred to.
