Abstract
237,348. Hawley, C. G. April 25, 1924. Water-tube boilers.-A water-tube boiler consists in a converted heat bank of tubes of major extent below which is a radiant heat bank of tubes of minor extent, the headers of the upper bank being coupled by downcomers to the bottom headers of the lower bank. The upper section comprises three units 5 supported on the floor beams 4 each unit comprising a large bank of tubes 6 coupling front and rear headers 7, 8, these headers being preferably of the form described in Specification 218,492. The headers are also connected by a steam drum 10 and smaller water drum 9. A common transverse steam drum 17 is placed above the header 8. Downcomers 13, 14, closely spaced to form a wall, pass from the headers 7. 8 to lower headers 11, 12 from which curved widely spaced tubes 15, 16, forming a radiant heat bank of minor extent, pass up to the drum 9. The superheater 21 is placed above the drum 9. Specification 236,320 is also referred to.
