Abstract
328,342. Woolnough, W. H. Feb. 1, 1929. Water-tube boilers.-In a boiler having an upper drum and two side drums connected bv banks of tubes 23, Figs. 1 and 2, a transverse wall 27 extends across the back of the furnace between the inner tubes of the tube banks, and the casing 35 is spaced from the tube banks to form longitudinal flues 29 on each side of the boiler. Superheaters 31 may be placed in the side longitudinal flues and between the tubes of each tube nest. The front and rear walls 36, 37 are, hollow and form water chambers communicating with the upper and lower drums. The water walls may be formed in two or more parts with sliding connections between the parts. The transverse partion may be formed as a water chamber in communication with the upper and lower drums. The casing may be lined with rows of superheater or boiler tubes. Feedwater is supplied through a pipe 49, Fig. 10, in the rear of the upper drum and is directed downwards and upwards through the tubes by partitions 47, 48 in the drums. The feedwater may be preheated in vertical tubes 51, Fig. 12, connecting the rear of the upper drum to a lower header 50, to which the feed is supplied through a pipe 52. The side flues may be divided by baffles arranged beyond the transverse partition.
