218,571. Elliott, A. Dec. 19, 1923. Water-tube boilers; partitions in water space.-In a boiler of the kind described in Specification 217,757, the rear water drum C is divided into two compartments 12, 13, each of which is in communication through water tubes 15, 16 respectively with the front water drum B, and the front water drum and one compartment 13 of the rear water drum are also in communication with one another through downcomers or return tubes. The downcomers or return tubes 19 are protected from the direct heat of the furnace by vertical baffles 17 placed between the tubes 15, 16. Tubes connected to the ends of the drums and arranged outside the boiler setting may be used as downcomers.
