U-tube and like superheaters. - In a steamsuperheater for water-tube boilers of the Babcock type having U-tube elements extending in the space between an elevated longitudinal drum and an underlying bank of water tubes and connected to transverse headers inside the boiler setting, the connections of the elements to the headers are made readily replaceable and detachable and are placed in a recess or pocket away from the action of the furnace gases. The furnace gases are deflected by water headers c, c , baffles e, f and a monkey wall g, placed above the baffle f, to pass repeatedly over the water tubes and the superheater elements l, each of which consists of a plurality of adjacent lengths of U-tubes with return bends, and which extend from adjacent the inner side of the front water header c to the monkey wall g, and are detachably connected, for example, by methods described in Specifications 6692/12 or 133,208, to transverse headers k, k'. A casing i, situated above the lower rear end of the bank of water tubes, and closed by removable shutters j, protects the connections and headers from the action of the hot furnace gases. Fingers m and n on an open casing h and the baffle e, respectively, separate and support the superheater elements, the whole superheater being readily accessible from outside the setting through openings o in the side walls.
