Abstract
581,738. Water-tube boilers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd., and SAMPSON, W. Dec. 17, 1942, No. 17943. [Class 123 (ii)] In a boiler having separately fired furnaces j, f and a superheater k in one of the tube banks e, the tubes are s o arranged that the gases from one of the furnaces j, before passing over any part of the superheater, pass between boiler tubes d and their path to the common outlet g is not in the path of the gases flowing from the other furnace. The gases may flow from the furnace j to the furnace g through a damper-controlled opening which may be closed to allow the part of the boiler heated by the furnace j to be used as a donkey boiler, the gases from which then pass to the outlet g through a separate dampercontrolled flue. The gases may flow forwards and backwards through banks of tubes instead of vertically. Specifications 484,529 and 528,783 are referred to.
