Abstract

571,400. Steam boilers. ALLEY, S. E. Jan. 17, 1944, No. 900. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] In a fire-tube locomotive &c. boiler in which some of the fire-tubes 14 house superheater tubes 15, the remaining tubes 16 are of approximately the same outside diameter as the tubes 14 and are formed with internal mounds 17 as described in Specifications 566,312 and 567,473. Preferably the outside diameter of all the fire-tubes is reduced at the ends of 18 adjacent to the fire-box 11 by from 10-25 per cent., and through at least 10-25 per cent. of their length; said reduced portions maintaining their cylindrical crosssection.
