Abstract
579,915. Steam superheaters. ALLEY, S. E. Sept. 21, 1944, No. 18020. [Class 123 (iii)] A single-loop superheater tube 13, 14 located within a locomotive boiler fire tube 11Àis fitted with a metal shield 17 which extends along the superheater tube for about one-fifth to one-half of its length from the smoke-box end 10 and is provided with vanes 18 arranged obliquely with respect to the fire tube so as to deflect the flue gases upon the inner surface of the latter. The shield 17 is formed in opposed halves which bridge the two lengths 13, 14 of the superheater tube and are held together by bolts 19 passing between the latter, or, alternatively, are spot-welded to the superheater tube or to each other, and the vanes 18 are either inclinod downwardly from left to right on both half shields or else inclined downwardly on one side and upwardly on the other side. The invention is particularly applicable to fire tubes of a diameter capable of accommodating a two-loop superheater element. Specifications 28,607/11, [Class 123 (iii)], and 412,251 are referred to.
