Water-tube boilers; compound boilers. - To prevent overheating of the tubes of water-tube boiler a, Fig. 1, designed for grate firing when coal-dust or like firing is used in place of the grate firing an auxiliary group of tubes b is placed in front of the boiler tubes. The auxiliarv tubes may be connected to the boiler drum or they may be connected to a separate drum and form an independent high-pressure boiler. The auxiliary tubes may consist of groups of straight tubes i, Fig. 3, connected in series and subjected to gas temperatures increasing in the direction of the flow of the water through the tubes. The water circulation is increased by a pump h. Groups of tubes arranged above the furnaces of separate boilers may be connected to a single drum.
