Abstract
626,231. Steam-generator furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Dec. 23, 1946, No. 37674. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1945. [Class 51 (i)] A steam generator has a combustion chamber 10 and an open pass 36 lined with water tubes separated by a wall of tubes 38 sloped to increase the depth of the lower part of the combustion chamber, and formed with a waste gas opening at 34 and a slag opening at 30, the lower part of the combustion chamber to a height just above the burners 24 and 26 having an internal refractory lining 20 which also covers the bottom of said chamber. The height of the gas outlet 34 is less than the distance between the front and rear walls of the adjacent part of the combustion chamber 10 and greater than the distance between the front and rear walls of the adjacent part of the open pass 36. A slag discharge pit 40 receives molten ash from the combustion chamber 10 and deposits from the flue gases as they traverse the open pass 36 and the vertical pass 44 equipped with superheater and economiser tubes and air-heating tubes 120. In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown) the front wall cf the combustion chamber is formed with an arch through which burners project downwardly.
