Abstract

12,004. Babcock & Wilcox, [Babcock & Wilcox Co.]. May 21. Water-tube boilers. - A boiler built up of banks of tubes 4 connected to upper and lower drums 3, 2 is provided with a superheater consisting of an horizontal manifold 5 supported above the front steam-drum, and tubes 8 extending downwards to a manifold 9 supported above the rear of the furnace roof. The top manifold is divided by a transverse portion 7. The superheating-tubes serve as a support for the front wall 10, which consists of bricks partly enclosing the tubes, and an outer covering of asbestos and metal piates. A baffle 12 protects the lower part of the superheating - tubes. Steam is led into one of the compartments of the upper manifold by pipes 6 from a collecting- box 15, which communicates through nipples with an upper drum.
